The German government will finance a new 2m-euro project for sustainable rural development in Albania. The agreement was signed by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Bledi Çuçi and the Director of GIZ Hannes Cassens.
This agreement aims to properly address the challenge of consolidating and orienting agriculture in Albania towards a more competitive agriculture. In the occasion of the signing of the agreement, Minister Çuçi said that this package is entirely focused on realistic objectives.
After the implementation of this first program, the minister said, we will have another agreement with an additional fund of 8 million euros.
Four main pillars will focus on the cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture and GIZ.
· Implementation of the Rural Development Strategy and policies (support for development of strategies and policies in line with EU requirements, increasing the absorption of IPARD funds).
· Promotion of the value chain of typical products in certain areas (choice of products will have market orientation, traditional products or rural tourism products)
· Improving Education and Enhancing Knowledge in Agriculture and Rural Tourism.
· Enhancing capacities and knowledge in Agriculture and Rural Development (support to advisory services, civil society, organizations etc … with a particular focus on innovation in agriculture)
