The Tourism Development Program in its four components has the main objective to promote the development of quality and sustainable tourism in the Berat, Korça, Fier and Shkodra areas. The implementation of the program is expected to have an impact on the promotion of tourism and competitiveness of the country, but also in the growth of local economies and the generation of jobs.
TIRANA – Following several successful investment projects in the field of tourism, the Albanian Development Fund will implement another major tourism development program funded by the European Union and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
Tourism is a very important source of jobs and income generation for local economies, but also for the economy at the national level. Investments in tourism have risen enormously in recent years, which is reflected in an increasing number of tourists every year.
The Tourism Development Program, which has a duration of 4 years (December 2018 – December 2023), has four main components to promote the development of quality and sustainable tourism in the areas of Berat, Korça, Fier and Shkodra.
here are 100 million Euros, 40 financed by the EU and 60 million from the EBRD that will be invested to promote the diversification of tourism offerings in order to increase Albania’s competitiveness in the regional tourism market, improve tourist assets, improve road infrastructure and services, and the support of local economic initiatives.
“I am proud that the EU is investing 40 million Euro, in excellent cooperation with the EBRD, to promote economic regeneration and development in Albania. Tourist development is certainly a tool to increase the visitor experience and the quality of life of the receiving communities. But if it is badly planned or overly developed, it can ruin exactly those qualities that make Albania unique. This is today’s challenge: to help build a tourism sector that strengthens the social fabric and economic development, giving value to the natural beauties and cultural assets of this beautiful country, “said EU Ambassador Soreca during the launch event of the program a few days ago.
Meanwhile, EBRD in cooperation with the ADF will finance the investments identified under the Program and will be detailed in the next stages of the process.
The implementation of the program is expected to have an impact on boosting tourism and competitiveness of the country, but also in boosting local economies and generating jobs.
