Data revealed by the Albanian Institute of Statistics shows the production of olives has increased rapidly in the past years. In 2012, Albanian farms produced 108 thousand tons of olives, while in the following years the production maintained a steady pace of 96 thousand tons of olives produced per year.
Apart from farmers’ investment, the production and the cultivation of olives has also been boosted by subsidiaries from the government. The high local and international market demand for extra virgin olive oil is helping farmers to expand the olive-planted surfaces. In Albania, olive trees are mainly grown and cultivated in the southern part of the country.
