Prior to the prestigious event, SHARE Tirana 2019, Event Director of SHARE Architects, Florin Mindirigiu told to Rudina Hoxha of Follow Business Albania Magazine, the Media Partner of the event, that they are looking forward to hearing from Albanian architects about the current state of Tirana’s architecture and their vision for the future.

“For us, Albania was a wonderful surprise. Tirana is up to an era of challenging transformations and innovation with great and large-scale projects. The last few years have established a clear desire for a contemporary architectural approach, with well-known architects, such as BIG, MVRDV, Stefano Boeri, Coop Himmelb(l)au involved in shaping a new image for Albania,” said Mindirigiu. SHARE conferences (https://share-architects.com/) represent great meeting points for the architecture community. The latter come together to share ideas and inspiration, learn and celebrate excellence in architecture.

“We had the chance to meet many great Albanian architects and our guests and speakers were impressed by what they have witnessed at our first edition of SHARE Tirana. The Albanian architects are delightful presences at SHARE conferences across Europe and we are pleased to help them promote their ideas,” Mindirigiu said.

Full interview with Mr. Mindirigiu follows below:

FB: What will be the purpose of SHARE Tirana 2019 and how do you see the organization of such a big forum in Tirana this year?

FM: As with every SHARE Forum, our main goal resides in the idea of connecting people through architecture, sharing concepts and initiatives in Central and Eastern Europe in order to bring architecture to a more social sensitive level. We have established an architectural network that values the local architecture and promotes its representatives, that brings freshness through international renowned architects and challenge new ideas at the open session discussions. Our first edition of SHARE Tirana was definitely a successful one for us; we have strengthened our collaborations and managed to find a great response and support from the local authorities, so we have no doubt that SHARE Tirana 2019 will be another great opportunity for Albania to show us its architectural legacy and future intentions regarding contemporary architecture.

FB: How is the main theme going to be reflected in the keynotes?

FM: This edition of SHARE Tirana 2019 will have 3 panels: Tirana Tomorrow – Large Scale Projects, Facades, and Special Guest lecture. We want to offer a comprehensive perspective upon the architectural field, so we have invited professionals from different areas of architecture. We’ll have the pleasure to listen to arch. Mark SUTTON VANE, one of the top 10 lighting designers worldwide, landscape architect and urban planner, Rainer SCHMIDT, arch. Massimiliano FUKSAS, co-founder of Studio Fuksas, one of the most prestigious architectural offices in the world and many others. We are also looking forward to hearing from Albanian architects about the current state of Tirana’s architecture and their vision for the future.

FB: This conference is a unique opportunity for the profession to reflect on itself.  What should the participants expect to gain from this forum? For the Albanian architects, urbanists, designers, engineers, real estate developers, what uniquely opportunities will it offer?

FM: As a result of its wide variety of themes, from small scale projects to urban planning and lightening, SHARE Tirana can be an extraordinary channel of information, even if you are a curious student or young architect looking for inspiration or guidance from great names in architecture, or a real estate developer in search for a partnership or an example of a successful project. SHARE Architects is about exchanging knowledge in order to advocate the potential of expression in the architectural profession in Central and Eastern Europe. We create connections, intellectual and professional ones and this network has managed to establish an ever-increasing community. We not only reflect upon architectural profession, but we try to identify social problems that could have an architectural solution, and we are doing this by debating them with people that have proved an exemplary practice in architecture and at the same time, put all their efforts in improving people’s life.

FB: What is your vision about the architecture in Albania and what would you consider as key influence in making Albania pursue contemporary architecture?

FM: For us, Albania was a wonderful surprise. Tirana is up to an era of challenging transformations and innovation with great and large-scale projects. The last few years have established a clear desire for a contemporary architectural approach, with well-known architects, such as BIG, MVRDV, Stefano Boeri, Coop Himmelb(l)au involved in shaping a new image for Albania. There is also an important involvement among the local architects that want to place Albania among the countries with architecture relevant to present times and present needs. We had the chance to meet many great Albanian architects and our guests and speakers were impressed by what they have witnessed at our first edition of SHARE Tirana. The Albanian architects are delightful presences at SHARE conferences across Europe and we are pleased to help them promote their ideas.
